Dumplings For The Soul

Open on Spotify

In this update to Mary Lou, the narrator is after a new model for a new foundation for Buzz after reading about another family’s charitable effort in the Reynoldsburg Times. All the while, Buzz is preparing to get his library card and hopes Mary Lou might spend a few hours with him checking out comic books—or Snoopy. The request comes after a recent library disaster in which Buzz was found nearly naked on the bathroom floor after his scrotum popped off and rolled across the building, causing a scene with Denny from the car wash. The message closes with requests for “dumplings for the soul” books, concern that Mary Lou hasn’t been around in years, and a complaint that the house has grown smoggy without her changing the air filters.

Hey Mary Lou, it is me. And listen, babe, I was scrolling through, um, oh, the, oh, you know, the Reynolds Times, and, um, I saw this story on a little black boy who started a foundation for his cousin Rusty, I believe it was, and I was wondering if you knew him. I think what his name was, um, oh, well, let's say Grenadine, but we would love to do the same for Buzz. The previous foundation fundraisers we've run have not been as successful as we'd hoped. If you could, um, let us know about that. And Buzz is gonna be, um, he'll be getting his library membership, uh, library card coming up here, um, on Wednesday. And he'd be like, if you could maybe set aside a couple of hours to dedicate with him to go into the library and maybe check out some of the comic books. Yeah, or Snoopy. He likes Snoopy. Anyways, we went over there last, um, Thursday, and poor guy, he got all out of, been out of shape, and we was hoping that you could give him a call and, uh, talk him down. You know, he's been really, really having to struggle and having a hard time getting his, um, getting his orders in shape. And, and he was, uh, practically found naked on the bathroom floor of the library with, uh, poor guy's, uh, scrotum ended up popping off. Well, it sort of flew under the radar for a bit, and then it rolled over to, um, oh, oh, Denny from, uh, Cardsmith Water Shop, Car Wash. And we was hoping that he wouldn't say anything, but he just about lost it. And then Bud's just about lost it and complaining that maybe this library was a little bit too public for him, which I don't entirely disagree with. Also, if you had any more advice, uh, dumplings for the soul books, Peggy was wondering if you had any of those that she could borrow. Anything else that you suggested? We haven't heard from you for a couple of, well, Mary Lou's been a couple of years, so I hope that everything is okay. Peggy mentioned that you hadn't been over to change out our air filters, so it's getting a little smoggy inside, and Bud's keeps running around in it and trying to disappear in the smoke. But, um, anyways, I mean, it would be good to hear from you, baby. Take care. We haven't heard from you for a couple of...
